It may sound like a no-brainer, but the Conservative Party of BC’s only sitting MLA has decided to run for party leadership.
Nechako-Lakes MLA John Rustad is also the party’s newest member, having just joined last month.
He had been serving as an independent since August, when he was kicked out of the BC Liberal Party after nearly 17 years of membership.
Rustad was ejected from the party due to a history of questioning the science behind climate change, dating back to 2019.
Earlier this month, Conservative Leader Trevor Bolin announced he would be taking on an interim role as the party launched a leadership race.
So far, Rustad is the only candidate for the position, and remains the party’s only MLA since 2012.
He says that he’ll give British Columbians a genuine, principled leader, who is honest, open, and listens to residents.
