The District of Kitimat is gearing up for a celebration at the end of this month.
March 31 will mark 70 years since the districts incorporation in 1953.
At the time, the district was established as a residency for the employees of the then Alcan aluminum smelter.
Though in a statement, Mayor Phil Germuth also acknowledged the much longer history of the Haisla territory, and said that celebrations will be done in a respectful and inclusive way because of it.
Partnering with the Kitimat Museum and Archives, museum display will pop-up at the City Centre Mall from noon until 4:00 where the Mayor will be in attendance to talk with families.
All leisure services are free from March 31 to April 2, families are also invited to a paint the ice activity at the Tamatik Arena on April 2 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
