A new, versatile, piece of equipment will allow the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital to expand capacity for many types of surgical procedures.
Northern Health has partnered with the Prince Rupert Port Authority to purchase a second laparoscopic surgical tower for the hospital.
Used during minimally invasive surgeries, the tower allows specialists to perform many procedures, without the need for large incisions.
It is capable of recording and displaying high-quality images, helping to document a broad range of surgeries and reducing complications.
Prior to the purchase, the hospital only had access to one tower, leading to logistical and scheduling challenges.
In total, the PRPA provided $60,000 to purchase the machine, through Northern Health’s Surgical Equipment Optimization Program.
