Prince Rupert is honouring Tsunami Preparedness Week by reminding residents of the safest spots to take shelter during a tsunami.
In the event of a tsunami warning, Prince Rupert residents are advised to stay away from the waterfront, and make their way to high ground.
All of the City’s residential areas, with the exception of Beach Place and Water Street, are high enough to avoid direct risk.
That means that, in most situations, the best course of action during a tsunami is to remain inside your own home.
But for those out and about, the City has also set up four tsunami safe locations.
Those include: the corner of Dry Dock Road and 6th Avenue East, the corner of Bill Murray Drive and stiles Place, and at the Rec Complex.
This week, the City and PreparedBC are hosting a High Ground Selfie Contest, with a chance to win a fully stocked emergency kit.
To participate, snap a picture at any safe spot and post it to Facebook or Twitter with @CityofPR and #HighGroundSelfiePR.
