Coastal GasLink crews have discovered two clay deposits resulting from their recent construction activities under the Morice River.
Clay is a non-toxic substance used during a process known as micro-tunneling to safely feed pipeline under sensitive areas.
That process saw crews bore under the River to push concrete casings into the soil, before pulling piping through the tunnel created as a result.
CGL says that one of the two deposits was discovered on land and has since been isolated.
Another was identified in a small tributary on the west side of the river, though winter conditions mean little water has flown through it.
Environmental specialists are currently working to remediate the site and install additional mitigation measures.
Indigenous community members from the Construction Monitoring and Community Liason team are also on site to monitor and report.
