UPDATE (04/14 10:30 am)
A volcanic eruption over 4,000 kilometres away forced the cancellation of numerous flights into and out of Terrace yesterday.
Dangerous volcanic ash filled the air across the Pacific, following the eruption on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday.
While the ash poses little threat to those on the ground, it has the potential to wreak havoc on airplane engines.
Air Canada, West Jet, and Central Mountain Air were all forced to cancel flights out of Terrace’s Northwest Regional Airport last night as a result.
But, airport Manager Carman Hendry says that flights are back to their regular schedules today.

Flights will pick back up once Environment Canada confirms that it is safe to take off once more.
