City of Terrace gives update on Lanfear Corridor Improvement Plans

The City of Terrace gave an update on the progress of multiple projects in the Lanfear Corridor Improvement Plan. 

With components being included in the Transportation Master Plan from 2017, the improvement plan became a collection of road upgrades on and surrounding Lanfear Hill.

After being denied two grant opportunities to assist with the plans, Director of Engineering and Public Works Ben Reinbolt told CFNR on April 12, that they’re continuing work on the detailed design changes.

One of the bigger projects residents would see would be the construction of an elevated pedestrian multi-use pathway on Lanfear Hill at an estimated cost of $4.9 million dollars. That pathway would also lead into a pedestrian crosswalk at the bottom of the hill costing an estimated $500,000. 

Back at the top of the hill, an estimated $1 million roundabout is being planned, intersecting Lanfear Drive, Cooper Drive, Thomas Street, and McConnell Avenue. 

Currently, the projects are part of the 2024 capital plan, though Reinbolt says that they may have to revisit that timeline in upcoming budget meetings due to that agenda being dependent on the grant approvals.
