Coastal GasLink Issued Multiple New Non-Compliance Orders by the BC Energy Regulator and Environmental Assessment Office

Both the BC Energy Regulator, and Environmental Assessment Office have hit Coastal GasLink with a number of new non-compliance orders.

But, CGL says that they proactively paused work along the portion of the pipeline in question, ahead of the orders being issued last Friday.

Each stem from an inspection of their pipeline route near the Anzac River, east of McLeod Lake, conducted by the EAO on April 24th.

It found that CGL’s efforts to prevent sediment-laden water from reaching the Little Anzac tributary did not meet the requirements of their contract.

As a result, the EAO ordered all work between the pipeline’s 143 and 146 kilometre marks to cease until activities are compliant.

But those same issues also led to another seven similar non-compliance orders, issued by the BC Energy Regulator.

Their orders require CGL to establish a water management plan to better manage erosion and sediment control issues.

Both regulators say CGL is actively working with them to fix the issues, and the company says that completing the project in a safe and environmentally friendly manner is their top priority.

To date, CGL has received three fines for failing to control sediment and erosion, totalling more than $450,000 in penalties.
