Community members in Skidegate came together yesterday to mourn the death of two boaters discovered near the Village last weekend.
A large search effort was launched by residents over the weekend, after the pair failed to return to the village from a fishing trip.
But after failing to locate the vessel on their own, the party called on Victoria’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to assist in the search.
Members of the Canadian Coast Guard were sent to join the effort, and by 1:00 Sunday afternoon, the bodies of the missing anglers were found.
According to the BC Coroners’ Service, who have taken over the investigation, the cause of the deaths are unclear at this time.
Yesterday, the Skidegate Health Centre held a sacred fire, allowing residents to share thoughts, prayers, memories, donations, and more.
