Two new shelters will offer users of the north coast’s only maintained cross-country trail network some scenic spots to take a breather.
Constructed by the Snow Valley Nordic Ski Club, the multi-function shelters are located along their 35 km Onion Lake Ski Trail network.
Located halfway between Terrace and Kitimat, the Trails serve over 850 season’s pass holders and thousands more each day.
In addition to skiing, the club is working to develop the network for other uses, such as snowshoeing, fat-bike riding, and off-season hiking.
Both of the new shelters, located at the Onion Lake and Lakelse Lake Viewpoints, are equipped with seating, and one even features a fireplace.
Construction of the new shelters was made possible by a $27,000 investment from the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Community Investment Fund.
