North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice is standing in solidarity with a Prince Rupert student who had his nail polish removed against his will.
Rice stood in the Legislature yesterday, recounting the boy’s story, and leading a host of other MLA’s in a show of support.
Shemar, a 2nd Grade student at Conrad Elementary, had just received his first manicure-pedicure, which Rice says put a smile on his face.
But, it didn’t put one on the face of his teacher, who allegedly removed the nail polish over the course of two days.
Yesterday, Rice and more than two dozen of her colleagues, male and female, painted their own nails in a show of support for the young boy.
She hopes the effort spreads the message that anyone can paint their nails, and everyone deserves to feel safe at school regardless.
School District 52 says they have launched an investigation into the incident.
