Terrace residents will need to pay close attention to what they put in their recycling bins moving forward, or risk being fined.
New fines have been introduced by the City as they look to reduce the amount of contaminated materials getting to the landfill.
RecycleBC regularly audits the City to ensure they are staying below the maximum levels of contamination and non-acceptable materials.
But, since introducing curbside pickup in 2017, the City has struggled to meet those targets, owing to a number of repeat offenders.
Moving forward, anyone caught putting prohibited waste in a recycling, refuse, or organics cart will face new penalties.
Written warnings will be issued for the first three offenses, with escalating fines of $25, $50, $75, and $100 for subsequent violations.
Prohibited items include: glass, foam, paper towels, electronics, hazardous waste, refuse and diapers, and more, with a full list at this link.
