A local state of emergency has been declared for Areas B and C of the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, as the Skeena River continues to rise.
It comes alongside evacuation orders for properties in New Remo and Old Remo west of Whitebottom, and an evacuation alert for Usk and Braun’s Island.
A second local state of emergency has also been issued by the City of Terrace to prepare for possible evacuations.
They have issued their own evacuation alerts, covering the area around Braun’s Island, from Skeena Street east to Kenney Street, and north to Medeek and Haugland Avenue.
Ferry Island is also covered under an evacuation alert.
An alert is not a call to evacuate, but rather to prepare in case an order is issued.
Residents under evacuation orders should head to the Terrace Sportsplex, and those in need of transportation can contact 250-641-2443.
Full maps of all evacuation alert and order areas can be found below, and information on how to prepare for flooding can be found at this link.
Meanwhile, most of the North remains under flood-related advisories issued by the River Forecast Centre.
A flood warning remains in place for the Skeen and Bulkley Rivers, and their tributaries near Terrace, Smithers, Telkwa, Kispiox, and Hazelton.
High streamflow advisories are also in effect for the Nass, Stikine, and Liard Rivers, and tributaries, as well as the entirety of the Peace Region.
Both the Quesnel and Little Swift Rivers, as well as the Fraser and Upper Fraser between Prince George and Quesnel are also under high streamflow advisories.
