A province-wide open fire ban is set to go into effect tomorrow afternoon, as the Wildfire Service combats more than 60 active fires.
Category 2 and 3 open fires are already banned in the Northwest, Prince George, and Cariboo Fire Centres who are most impacted.
But, beginning tomorrow afternoon, the Coastal, Kamloops,a nd Southeast Centres will also be added to the prohibition list.
That will ban all open burns in one or more piles larger than half a metre in height and width, as well as stubble or grass fires of any size.
It will also cover fireworks and windrows of any size, but will not include campfires smaller than half a metre by half a metre.
Burn registration holders are also reminded that winter burn piles can continue to smoulder into the Spring, and could start a wildfire.
Wildfire Service crews are asking registration holders to check on piles burnt over the winter to ensure they’re fully extinguished.
