Working towards the purchase of a new firetruck, Port Edward has been given $75,000.
Currently using a 30 year old truck, the district hopes to attain a new Freightliner M2 Crew Cab firetruck with a $450,000 price tag.
Mayor Knut Bjorndal says that the district relies on their volunteer fire fighters to respond to vehicle accidents on Highway 16 and potential rail-related accidents and of course fires, so it’s important for them to have the right equipment.
That $75,000 contribution comes from Trigon Pacific Terminal’s Community Investment Fund.
Trigon CEO Rob Booker says that it’s important for the company to support the neighbouring communities that they also rely on in the event of an emergency.
