Canadian Coast Guard detachments who operate in shallow or inland bodies of water will soon have access to a slew of new vessels.
A fresh $2.5 billion investment will allow the Federal Government to procure 61 new small vessels.
Those will replace an aging fleet of small craft, barges and work boats with new, modern equipment to help keep Canadians safe.
With the investment, Ottawa will look to acquire 6 mid-shore multi-mission vessels, one near-shore fishery research vessel, four air cushion vehicles, and 34 search and rescue lifeboats.
Another 16 specialty vessels will be made up of NavAid vessels, shallow draft buoy tenders, inshore science vessels, enforcement vessels, and lake class boats.
