Minimum wage earners in BC will be making more than those in any other province after an increase set for this Thursday takes effect.
Under the increase, workers will see their pay go from the current rate of $15.65 per hour to $16.75 per hour, marking an increase of 6.9 percent.
That will help residents keep pace with inflation, and is part of the Province’s efforts to tie future wage increases to the cost of living.
Resident caretakers, line-in home support workers and live-in camp leaders will also see their wages increase by the same percentage.
Meanwhile, piece rates for selected hand-harvested crops will also see an equal increase in wages, though that won’t take effect until January.
