Prince Rupert City Council has opted to forego a public hearing for a proposed bylaw amendment in an effort to improve access to child care.
If passed, the amendment would allow child care facilities to operate in all Multi-Family Residential and Public Facilities zones in the City.
With demand for additional spaces growing in the community, the City included child care as a key priority in their Official Community Plan.
Municipalities are allowed to waive the requirement for a public hearing for zoning amendments, if the rezoning is in line with their OCP.
Residents have until June 9th to submit comments or inquiries in written form to Corporate Administrator Rosamaria Miller.
Comments can either be mailed to the City, or e-mailed to Rosamaria.Miller@princerupert.ca.
Council will give first reading to the bylaw amendment at their June 12th regular meeting.
