More than 40 comments were submitted during a month-long public consultation period for the proposed KSI Lisims LNG project.
Residents had until this Monday to provide their input on how the project’s environmental assessment process will be conducted.
Most of the comments received were opposed to the project, owing largely to its perceived environmental and ecological impacts.
But, many also mentioned impacts on First Nations which fell outside the immediate area, and on the local impacts of the added shipping traffic.
Some of the submissions ask for more stringent green house gas reporting, local marine travel restrictions, and better consultation with First Nations.
Proposed by the Nisga’a Nation and their partners Rockies LNG and Western LNG, the floating facility is planned for Pearse Island, west of Gingolx.
It is expected to produce 12 million tonnes of LNG annually over the course of its 40 year life span.
