An RCMP officer from Kitimat was able to rescue a fisherman after a curious grizzly bear brought their trip to an impromptu end on Monday.
Luckily, the fisherman was able to safely distance themselves from the grizzly and make their way up wind before requesting help.
They had been fishing along the Kitimat River, near the Haisla Bridge, and managed to send a screenshot of their location on a map to police.
Officers were then able to secure a boat and escort from staff at the Kitimat Fish Hatchery and successfully rescue the angler.
Crews from the Conservation Officer Service and DFO also intended to further investigate the bear’s behaviour, though police never spotted it.
