Williams Lake Community Forest has been given the $10,000 Robin Hood Memorial Award for Excellence in Community Forestry.
What garnered recognition for the city is a handful of programs designed to benefit the community and uphold forestry practices.
Those programs include a strong wildfire reduction plan which has treated 850 hectares so far, direct economic contribution through sales to local mills, and grant contributions.
Winners are determined by their demonstration of community leadership, providing local and social economic opportunity, innovation and a passion for community forestry.
A partnership between the city and the Williams Lake First Nation, the forest area covers nearly 29,000 hectares divided in two parcels on either side of the city.
