Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach says the Liberals are continuing to prioritize the profits of Big Pharma over the health of Canadians.
But he hopes that a bill tabled yesterday outlining his party’s plan for a universal, single-payer, pharmacare system can reverse that trend.
Fellow NDP MP Don Davies tabled Bill C-340 yesterday, which Bachrach says could save Canadians $500 per year.
If passed, it would establish a single public fund which all Canadians would pay in to and be able to access to pay for insured medications.
As it stands, Canadians pay the third highest medication costs in the world, and Bachrach says the Liberals are continuing to side with Big Pharma.
He says that the plan outlines exactly what the NDP expect from a National Pharmacare plan.
Under a Supply and Confidence Agreement signed with the NDP last year, the Liberals have until the end of this year to introduce Pharmacare legislation.
