An attempt at fraud over $5,000 in Kitimat was stopped thanks to a fellow resident who didn’t buy it.
On June 8, a resident received an alleged phone call from their grandson asking for bail money.
They were told to take out a sum of cash and arrangements would be made to pick up the money.
However, the RCMP were notified of the situation by a concerned citizen who had spoken with the resident and it was determined to be false.
That isn’t the first fraud attempt with the same story, as RCMP began warning residents of a bail money scam early last year.
If contacted by a scammer, it’s advised to not give any personal information, hang up the phone, and notify RCMP.
