Kitsumkalum Walk for Health Raises $26,100, More Than Half of Total Price Tag for New Maternity Ultrasound Machine

Participants in the 2023 Kitsumkalum Walk for Health helped to raise $26,100 in support of maternity care in Terrace.

That will cover roughly half of the $72,000 needed to purchase a new Obstetrical Ultrasound machine for Mills Memorial Hospital’s maternity ward.

Hosted by the REM LEE Hospital Foundation, the event also saw them announce their newest and most ambitious fundraising effort to date.

They’ll be looking to raise $14.5 million through their Closer to Home Campaign for a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nursery at the hospital.

That would make Mills the only hospital in the Northwest to offer Tier 3 care for infants in need of higher levels of care.

They got their fundraising efforts off to a hot start though at the walk, with Newcrest Mining providing a $2 million head start.
