Wildfire crews in the Tommy Lakes area of the North Peace are now fighting the largest wildfire in the province’s history.
At just over 535,000 hectares, the Donnie Creek blaze, burning just east of Highway 97, has surpassed the 2017 Plateau Fire as the largest ever.
Evacuation orders remain in place for properties between Pink Mountain and Beatton, with an alert for properties along the highway as well.
Meanwhile, the 25,000 hectare West Kiskatinaw River blaze near Tumbler Ridge is no longer prompting any evacuation orders.
But evacuation alerts do remain in effect extending from the northeast section of the District east to the Alberta border.
South of Fort Liard, at the border with the Northwest Territories, a separate evacuation order is in place for the 5,500 hectare Ittsi Creek fire.
And the Tooga Creek fire is now covering 36,000 hectares, with an evac alert in place east of Kotcho River, near the border.
Category two and three fires remain banned provincewide, while campfires are still banned in the Prince George and Coastal Fire Centres.
Campfires also remain banned in the Nadina Fire Zone of the Northwest Fire Centre.
