All evacuation orders surrounding what is still the largest wildfire in BC’s history have now been lifted.
Evacuation alerts remain in place, however, in the Tommy Lakes area, where the 554,000 hectare Donnie Creek fire continues to burn.
Wildfire crews say wind and cooler weather have helped battle the North Peace blaze lately, but say the situation remains volatile.
It’s not the first time evacuation orders have been lifted for the fire, which had shrunk to around 158,000 hectares late last month.
Separate evacuation alerts are still in effect east of Tumbler Ridge due to the 25,000 hectare West Kiskatinaw River fire.
In the far Northeast, the Tooga Lake fire is covering 36,000 hectares and prompting an evacuation alert near the Alberta border.
And the only order still in place is in the north covers the 5,500 hectare Ittsi Creek fire at the border with the Northwest Territories.
Fire danger ratings remain at high for most of the north, with some areas along the coast dipping to moderate levels.
