Several investments have been made by both the province and Canada to ensure climate resilience and protection for the Tŝilhqot’in National Government.
In total, the Province is providing $6 million to determine what emergency infrastructure is needed in the territory and continue support for their Collaborative Emergency Management Agreement.
Thanks to $1 million of that, the agreement will remain in place for the next four years to enhance the role of Tŝilhqot’in people in emergency management.
On the federal level, Indigenous Services Canada has also committed $2 million for that agreement.
Meanwhile, Natural Resources Canada is investing more than $1 million towards capacity building to establish local wildfire crews in all six of the Tŝilhqot’in communities.
That funding is part of the Fighting and Managing Wildfires in a Changing Climate Program to incorporate indigenous knowledge in fire management.
