Collaboration between RCMP and multiple search and rescue crews was the key to saving an injured hiker near Bella Coola this week.
RCMP first received reports of the injured hiker at the Petroglyphs Trail network near the 4 Mile Subdivision at 2:45 Monday afternoon.
Once on scene, officers located the hiker in the dense brush suffering from serious injuries sustained after a 30 metre fall.
Bella Coola Valley Search and Rescue, the Nuxalk Guardian Watchmen, and EHS were all called in to assist with the rescue.
Police provided first aid, while the Guardians worked to cut a path for SAR crews, before all helped to load the injured man into a basket stretcher.
He was then transported to an awaiting ambulance, before being taken to hospital in Bella Coola, before sending him to a larger hospital.
All-in-all, roughly 50 community members and responders showed up at the scene to lend a hand in the rescue.
