Prince Rupert is moving forward with their work to increase parking in Cow Bay.
An interim gravel parking area will be developed along the cleared south side of George Hills Way which awaits future development.
That plan offsets the possible sale of land on Cow Bay Road which has already prompted an offer from a developer to be advertised this week.
So to offset any possible loss of already congested parking, they’re looking to the Prince Rupert Legacy Inc, who owns the lot, to make up the difference.
City manager Rob Buchan says that adequate parking in the high-interest area of Cow Bay is important to ensure public access.
That plan is part of the City’s Interim Parking Management Strategy which was identified as a strategic priority in 2022.
Those plans will also see the rollout of regulatory parking changes over the next 1 to 3 years.
