The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has issued a 72 hour strike notice after months of bargaining.
Discussions between the ILWU and the BC Maritime Employers Association have been on going since February.
Two key bartering points for the union besides pay include job stability, which they say is impacted by port automation and contracting out.
However, the union says the employers have refused to negotiate on those main issues.
With that, the notice states that longshore workers will be prepared to walk off the job at 8 am on July 1.
That warning comes after the agreed upon cooling off period, which prevented either party from striking or issuing a notice before June 21.
Employers say that the notice will not impact workers servicing grain vessels, though they are unsure if those who service cruise ships.
Despite that, the employers say they are committed to bargaining in good faith and achieving a fair deal.
In total, the ILWU represents more than 7,200 workers tasked with loading and unloading cargo at ports across BC.
