A new consultation process has been established by the Blueberry River First Nation for prospective oil and gas developments in the area.
In partnership with the BC Energy Regulator, the process is part of the Blueberry Implementation Agreement.
That will require more information and engagement sessions with the nation prior to any application process.
All information gathered during those engagements would then need to be documented in a spreadsheet which would be reviewed by the nation and then sent to the BCER.
An implementation agreement form would also be required, detailing plans to minimize disturbances and ensure compliance with protection plans.
This new process is meant to condense necessary information into easy-to-understand documents without compromising meaningful engagement.
The pair also released a guidance document to help oil and gas proponents navigate the new process.
