Fire Burning North of Lakelse Avenue Prompts Closure of Old Skeena Bridge in Terrace

A fire burning along the banks of the Skeena River has the Old Skeena Bridge in Terrace closed to traffic.

Multiple fire trucks and emergency vehicles are currently on-scene responding to the blaze which ignited just before 8:00 tonight.

It is covering approximately 0.6 hectares north of Lakelse Avenue, as of 10:00, and is listed as out of control by the Wildfire Service.

Crews believe the fire to be human caused, and there is no word at the moment on a re-opening time for the road.

It was the second fire to call the department into action within the hour, after crews responded to an earlier fire across from the Wal-Mart on Highway 16.
