State of Emergency Issued for Stikine Region, Alongside Multiple Evacuation Orders and Alerts in Northwest as Wildfires Rage

New evacuation orders and alerts are in place across the province after lightning sparked 115 new wildfires over the weekend.

A state of emergency has been issued for the Stikine Region, due to the 30,000 hectare Little Blue River fire west of Highway 37, near the Yukon border.

In Telkwa, the 36 hectare Powers Creek blaze is prompting evacuation orders for properties off Tatlow Road, west of the River.

On the west edge of Francois Lake, south of Houston, the 1,200 hectare Parrot Lookout blaze is also leading to evacuations.

Fires at Sheratons Creek and Stearns Creek in Tintagel are covering 625 hectares combined, with orders and alerts in place in between.

Properties on either side of Highway 27 around Echo Lake are being evacuated due to the 390 hectare Tsah Creek fire.

Another order is covering the area around Finger Lake, north of the Park, as a 270 hectare fire continues to grow there.

An evacuation order also remains in place for the 47,000 hectare Big Creek fire south of the Omineca Provincial Park.

Evacuation alerts are also in place for the Tatin Lake fire, west of Endako, and the Pinkut Lake fire on the southwest edge of Babine Lake.

Category two and three open fires are banned across BC, with campfires set to join them everywhere but Haida Gwaii at 3:00 this afternoon.
