An interim National Chief has been selected by the Assembly of First Nations.
Regional Chief Joanna Bernard of the Madawaska First Nation has been named to fill the gap.
She takes the position after RoseAnne Archibald, who was ousted from the position last month after violating the assembly’s whistleblower policy.
Bernard says her focus will be maintaining their current priorities, restoring confidence in the assembly, and ensuring First Nations voices are heard.
Bernard will hold the position until December when an election will be held at that month’s Special Chiefs Assembly.
