Sheep, elk, and humans alike will benefit from over $8 million in funding from the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation this year.
In total, that funding will be split between 167 fish and wildlife conservation projects across BC.
Over $1 million is being spent in the Omineca-Peace region, where a project will use prescribed burns to make life easier for local sheep.
Treating grasslands with prescribed fire improves the quantity and quality of food, while also increasing sightlines for protection from predators.
Other projects in the region seek to: improve caribou habitats in the Clearwater Valley, study the effects of landscape changes on moose, reduce predator movement and human disturbance, and more.
