Recipients of the third annual British Columbia Reconciliation Award have been announced.
In partnership with the BC Achievement Foundation, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of BC announced the 6 total winners.
Of those, four are individuals and two are organizations that are being recognized for their leadership or inspiration to further reconciliation.
Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellars was recognized for his collaboration with other governments and overall leadership.
Though his biggest recognition comes from his work on investigating the site of the former St Josephs’s Mission Residential School.
One of the winning organizations is the Exploration Place and Lheidli T’enneh First Nation partnership in Prince George.
Their recognition comes for their collaboration on exhibits that house repatriated cultural objects and digitizing Dakelh oral histories.
Other recipients include Dr. Daniele Behn Smith in Victoria, Dr. Barney Williams in Campbell River, Dr. Eldon Yellowhorn and the BC branch of the Last Post Fund in Burnaby.
Winners of the award will be recognized in a ceremony at Government House in Victoria next year.
