With nearly 1.4 million hectares burned since April, the 2023 wildfire season has officially surpassed 2018 as the worst in BC’s history.
At the moment, there are nearly 400 active blazes burning provincewide, with more than half raging in the north.
Evacuation orders and alerts remain in place north of Francois Lake, south and east of Houston, south of Babine Lake, and around Tintagel.
Orders are also in effect for Fort Babine and the surrounding area, at Andrew’s Creek north of Ootsa Lake, and around Great Bear Lake, north of Vanderhoof.
Cedarvale, Woodcock, and the Sik-E-Dakh areas are all covered under alerts, with no orders in place.
Meanwhile, orders and alerts cover a large swath from Fraser Lake in the North, west and south to Tweedsmuir Park, and east to Udy Creek, past Nazko.

Crews from the Armed Forces which arrived on Sunday are being dispatched to Burns Lake and Vanderhoof to fight the largest active complexes.
Coast Guard crews will also lend administrative support, and provide equipment, staging areas, and transportation for wildfire crews.
