Quick action from a nearby family helped to save a dog who was attacked by a wolf at the Butze Rapid trails in Prince Rupert this morning.
A family had been at the beach off the walking trail with their dog when the wolf appeared and began to approach the group.
Luckily, a second family who had brought bear bangers was nearby and began to utilize the bangers to scare off the wolf.
While the wolf would eventually flee, the bangers didn’t dissuade it from attacking the medium-sized dog, who remarkably escaped with no injuries.
RCMP are advising residents to either avoid the trails for the time being, or to ensure they come prepared for interactions with wild life.
If you do encounter an aggressive wolf you should: make yourself look big, wave your arms, shout loudly, and never turn your back.
If you notice wild life acting aggressively, you can report it to the Conservation Service at 1 877 952 7277.
