A new surveillance system has been launched to demonstrate old growth logging in BC.
Stand.Earth Research Group has launched the Forest Eye program combining Government data, remote sensing, and satellite imagery.
They say it was modelled after systems used to track illegal logging in tropical rainforests.
Alerts from the system include information on the company conducting the logging, the location, the size of the area cleared, and whether or not the area was mapped for deferral.
Senior Forest Campaigner at Stand.Earth says the system is meant to help communities hold Premier David Eby and the government accountable for protecting old growth.
According to the group, none of the 14 recommendations from the Old Growth Strategic Review have been fulfilled.
