The District of Kitimat is responding to the recent service disruptions in the Kitimat General Hospital emergency room.
In a July 17 council meeting, a motion was passed to develop options and a budget for recruitment and retention of health care professionals.
That may start with a Union of BC Municipalities convention where the district has requested to speak with the Minister of Health.
In addition, a more urgent meeting request was made to the minister ahead of that September convention to continue to advocate for local health care.
Their statement comes after staffing shortages closed the emergency room from 7 pm to 8 am twice in two weeks unless the issue was life threatening.
Although the shortage isn’t unique to Kitimat, the district says they remain in contact with Northern Health to try to remedy the issue.
