Hospitality workers at a lodge housing those working on the LNG Canada site in Kitimat have reached a new deal to avoid strike action.
That came after the more than 450 camp workers were left out of two years of wage increases handed to trades workers housed at the camp.
It made the workers, represented by UNITE HERE Local 40 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the lowest compensated on the project.
But now, the Unions have reached an agreement with employer Sodexo which will net them wage increases of up to 40 percent over its one year term.
Lodge workers will receive an immediate $5 per hour increase, while maintenance workers will get an initial 10 percent wage boost.
Other accomplishments include: increased vacation pay, improved benefits, the creation of a retirement plan, and workload protections.
