Prince Rupert City Council have approved a pair of remedial action orders to remove debris at a trio of fire-damaged lots.
That order allows the city to proceed with the removal of the buildings, unless the property owner files a reconsideration notice within 14 days.
One of the orders covers Rose’s Oriental Food and Gifts on 3rd Avenue West, which caught fire in May of last year.
It suffered significant damage alongside the neighbouring Belmont Hotel, where site clean-up got underway last month.
But garbage and debris, including a derelict bus and vehicle, remain at the site of the now closed store.
A second order would facilitate the removal of buildings at 1127 and 1133 2nd Avenue West, better known as the Angus Apartments.
Fires in December of 2021 and 2022 devastated the properties, which have been the site of daily calls from RCMP and fire crews since.
Should no reconsideration notice be filed, the City will proceed with the clean-ups, with costs being placed on the lots’ property taxes.
