The Union of BC Indian Chiefs has stated their support for the search of a Manitoba landfill where the bodies of First Nations women are believed to have been deposited.
24 year old Rebecca Contois and 33 year old Linda Mary Beardy were both found in the Brady landfill.
While Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and an unidentified woman dubbed Buffalo Woman are all believed to be in the Prairie Green landfill.
Though the province has stated that it would be too costly to conduct a search of that landfill, prompting criticism.
Now, a group of advocates have gathered at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg to protest that decision.
That protest comes after an injunction forced the removal of a blockade at the Brady Landfill last week.
An alleged serial killer Jeremy Skibicki has been charged with first degree murder for the deaths of all but Linda Mary Beardy.
The UBCIC says they stand with the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Girls and two spirit people, and denounce the Manitoba Government’s decision.
