Indigenous communities across BC are set to benefit from a new $30 million Provincial investment in food security and sovereignty.
Delivered by the New Relationship Trust, the program aims to strengthen distinct local food systems, and revitalize traditional harvesting practices.
It will utilize traditional knowledge to support Indigenous farming while offering more equitable participation in the agricultural economy.
By extension, the program seeks to reduce the disproportionate amount of food insecurity within Indigenous communities.
Funding will support the planning of agricultural operations, as well as infrastructure such as greenhouses, irrigation systems, and community gardens.
