With more than $357 million spent fighting wildfires in BC this year, the 2023 season is officially the most costly on record.
Since April 1st, the province has seen nearly 1,600 wildfires burn a single-year record of nearly 1.6 million hectares.
While the fires in the north have begun to subside and shift south, it is still August, and much of the season still remains.
Evacuation alerts are still in effect for some properties east and south of Houston, and for some west and northwest of Fraser Lake.
Alerts are also in effect around Great Beaver Lake north of Vanderhoof, and to the west of the Omineca Provincial Park.
Most alerts and orders have now been lifted in the southeast Nechako, but an alert remains for the Lucas Lake area east of the Nechako Reservoir.
An alert also remains in place east of there, around Finger Lake, and for some portions of the Northern Cariboo south of there.
