Wildfire threats have died off in the Northwest in recent days, but a lingering drought and forecasted heatwave could spell a resurgence.
There are still over 400 active wildfires across BC, but the treacherous fires which had plagued the north have now moved further south.
An evacuation alert which had been in place east of Houston has now been lifted, but an alert to the south remains in place.
An alert between Takla Lake and the west edge of the Omineca Provincial Park has been rescinded, though alerts remain around the Park itself.
More alerts are in place southeast of Cheslatta around Lucas Lake and around the Lhoosk’uz area, and one remains in place around Finger Lake.
Fire danger ratings are currently sitting at low to moderate across the Northwest, but rising temperature forecasts early next week could change that.
Meanwhile, 28 of BC’s water basins are under level four or five drought conditions, with the Skeena Basin sitting in level three.
All forms of open burning remain banned across the province.
