Another investment is being made to improve wildfire fighting capacity in BC.
In the first phase of the Fighting and Managing Wildfires in a Changing Climate Training Fund, $400,000 will go towards the International Association of Fire Fighters.
That will develop a pilot project to provide training to structural firefighters to expand their skills and capabilities to fight wildfires.
That pilot project will train 25 instructors to deliver wildfire training in Kamloops.
In addition, 15 other courses will be delivered throughout western Canada, training up to 325 structural firefighters for urban interface training.
Those urban interface areas make up 32 million hectares where urban communities mingle with flammable environments.
This funding adds onto previous investments to train 300 Indigenous firefighters, 125 Indigenous fire guardians, and 1,000 new wildland firefighters over 5 years.
