Organizations in Terrace are continuing to lobby for Senior care and housing in the community.
Two letters asking Terrace City Council for support outline the issues facing senior citizens.
Volunteer Terrace is currently working on securing funding for the establishment of a senior care program.
In collaboration with Northern Health, the care program would provide wrap around in home and community care services.
The DR. R.E.M Lee Hospital Foundation also wrote a letter citing their concern for senior housing and long term care.
According to that, 17 out of 33 acute care beds at Mills are occupied by seniors waiting for a long term care space at Terraceview Lodge.
While council unanimously agreed that these issues are a concern, Mayor Sean Bujtas says that the foundation’s call to action would be better directed to the province.
Though Mayor Bujtas also stated that they will continue to lobby for the care of seniors in the community and will support Volunteer Terrace’s program.
