Three remaining RCMP officers have pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted obstruction of justice in the death of Dale Culver.
Constables Arthur Dalman and Clarence MacDonald, and Sergeant Bayani Cruz made their plea in an arraignment hearing yesterday (Wed).
There, they also elected to be tried by a provincial court judge, though no court date has been set.
That comes after Constables, Jean Francois Monette and Paul Ste-Marie pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in June.
These charges stem from a 2017 incident which saw officers pepper spray the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en man for allegedly casing vehicles.
After being detained in a police vehicle, Culver started experiencing difficulties breathing, before passing away in police custody.
Since Culver’s death, public outcry has stated anti-indigenous racism in policing.
