An evacuation alert has been issued by the Witset First Nation due to the growing John Brown Creek wildfire.
Burning roughly 4 kilometres west of Witset, the blaze is prompting an alert covering the entire village and some of the surrounding area.
Initially discovered on July 10th, the fire, which is now covering 260 hectares, had remained relatively small until last week.
An evacuation alert is not a call to evacuate but rather to prepare in case an order is issued.
Residents should pack essential items such as medications, IDs and essential documents, make travel and meeting plans with family, and prepare to move pets and livestock to a safe area.
